Lieutenant StarFinder Warp (R. K. Wigal) compiled this, his first ever crossword puzzle, the hard way.  He selected a puzzle grid, laid in twelve theme words, and then, over two tedious weeks, filled in the remaining words manually by painstaking trial and error.  For each of his subsequent puzzles, he used puzzle-compiling software, completing those puzzles, not in weeks, but in mere hours.
